Growth strategy

ORPEA has built its development and reputation on a stringent approach to the care of its residents and patients, which guarantees high standards of service, care and safety.

Growth strategy

Against a background of a rapidly ageing population in Europe and throughout the world, increasing specialisation and medicalisation of care facilities and a fragmented sector, in 30 years ORPEA has become a European leader in dependency care with 96,677 beds* in 951 facilities across 16 countries in september 2019 (France, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Czech Republic, Poland, Netherlands, Portugal*, Luxembourg, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay and China).

* Excl. facilities and beds in Chile and at BSL in Brazil (ORPEA is currently minority shareholder)

This exceptionally strong growth has been achieved in highly controlled and selective conditions, by opening new facilities and making targeted acquisitions.

ORPEA's strong development is based on several unchanging strategic pillars:
•    A centralised organisation structure for greater efficiency and quality;
•    Experience and expertise of qualified, trained staff who share ORPEA's founding values of ethics, respect, attentiveness, trust and professional conscience;
•    A stringent Quality policy, revised and improved on an ongoing basis;
•    A long-term real estate policy, based on modern facilities and outright ownership of a substantial part of the portfolio.

With an organisation structure scaled for its international expansion, its financial flexibility and its growth platforms in 10 countries, ORPEA will continue to meet the challenge of an ageing population by providing a high-quality long-term care offering.
